Course Overview

The CITC Level 1 HVAC Course for Emerging Building Engineers is delivered in both classroom and laboratory settings that optimizing student/instructor interaction and hands-on learning. This training methodology allows for peer exchange in a safe environment designed for learning and training practicums.  Each weeknight class starts at 6:00 p.m. and is three (3) hours in length. Each weekend class is eight (8) hours in length and starts at 8:00 a.m.

Course Requirements

Requirements for successful completion of the course are as follows:

  • Attendance of all classes

  • Completion of all project assignments

  • Passing grade of 70% or better on all tests

Course Content

The CITC Level 1 HVAC Course for Emerging Building Engineers includes 160 hours of classroom and laboratory training and one online self-directed OSHA 10 Class. This totals to 170 hours of training in the following content areas:

  • INTRODUCTION TO HVAC

  • TRADE MATH

  • BASIC ELECTRICITY

  • INTRODUCTION TO HEATING

  • INTRODUCTION TO COOLING

  • INTRODUCTION TO AIR DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS

  • BASIC COPPER AND PLASTIC PIPING PRACTICES

  • SOLDERING AND BRAZING

  • ALTERNATING CURRENT

  • COMPRESSORS

  • REFRIGERANTS AND OILS

  • LEAK DETECTION, EVACUATION, RECOVERY, AND CHARGING

  • SECTION 608 EPA CERTIFICATION

  • OSHA 10

Course schedules

cohort #1 starting Nov. 7, 2018

Location: All classes and hands-on laboratory sessions meet at Construction Industry Training Council (CITC), 1930 116th Ave. NE Bellevue, WA 98004. CITC’s location borders a residential neighborhood and sits below the road. Arriving early is highly recommended, especially on your first visit.

Cadence: Wednesdays, Thursdays, and select Saturdays from November 2017 through March 2019

November – Week nights: 7, 8,  14, 15, 21, 28, & 29 and Saturdays: 10 & 17 

December – Week nights: 5, 6,12, 13, 19, & 20 and Saturdays: 8

January – Week nights: 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, & 31 and Saturdays: 12

February – Week nights: 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, & 28 and Saturdays: 9 & 23

March – Week nights: 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, & 21 and Saturdays: 16

cohort #2 starting Nov. 12, 2018

Locations: Classroom sessions meet at System Mechanical and Safety Solutions, 969 S Nebraska St Suite B, Seattle, WA 98108 in Seattle. Hands-on laboratory sessions meet at Construction Industry Training Council (CITC), 1930 116th Ave. NE Bellevue, WA 98004. Additional details about scheduling and location will be provided after enrollment.

Cadence: Mondays, Wednesdays, and select Saturdays from November 2017 through March 2019

November – Week nights: 12, 14; 26, 28 and Saturdays: 17

December – Week nights: 3, 5; 10, 12; 17, 19 and Saturdays: 1 & 15

January – Week nights: 7, 9; 14, 16; 21, 23; 28, 30 and Saturdays: 19

February – Week nights: 4, 6; 11, 13; 18, 20; 25, 27 and Saturdays: 2 & 16
